Why Merida?
We chose Merida, Yucatan, because it offers the perfect balance of clinical opportunity, cultural immersion, and adventure. As a major healthcare hub in southern Mexico, Merida provides access to diverse clinical settings and experienced physical therapists, allowing participants to gain meaningful exposure to the field.
Outside the clinic, students can experience Merida’s rich Mayan heritage, vibrant culture, incredible food, beautiful cenotes, and nearby beaches. With the comfort of a modern city and a welcoming environment, Merida is the ideal place to grow professionally while experiencing everything that makes Mexico unique.
Shadowing Experience
This immersive experience includes up to 50-75 physical therapy observation hours completed over two weeks. Participants will observe in their assigned clinics for five hours each weekday, Monday through Friday. Applicants will also have the opportunity to share their areas of interest, and our team will do their best to match placements accordingly.
Our program in Yucatan, Mexico provides nomads the opportunity to shadow experienced licensed physical therapists in a variety of clinical settings. While many programs accept international observation hours, we strongly recommend participants verify with each individual school whether these hours will count toward prerequisite requirements or as additional experience.
A day in the life of a Nomad
Spend your weekdays gaining clinical experience while experiencing life in Merida. Each morning, head to a local clinic to shadow licensed physical therapists, interact with patients, ask questions, practice your Spanish, and observe a variety of treatment techniques. Clinic schedules vary by location, with some placements taking place in the afternoon.
When you’re not at the clinic, Mérida is yours to explore. Discover colorful streets, local cafés, historic plazas, markets, and the rich culture of Yucatán.
On weekends, join fellow Nomads on unforgettable adventures, from swimming in crystal clear cenotes and exploring ancient Mayan ruins to relaxing at the beach.
