Prepare for Merida

Traveling abroad is exciting, and being prepared makes the experience even better. From your first pre-departure meeting to your arrival in Merida, the Nomad team provides the information, guidance, and support you need to feel confident throughout your experience.

We'll help you understand what to expect, how to prepare, where you'll stay, and who to turn to if you need assistance while abroad.

Know Before You Go

Every participant attends a mandatory pre-departure meeting before traveling to Mexico. This meeting prepares students for their experience and gives them an opportunity to ask questions before they arrive. We'll cover:

Merida is widely recognized as one of Mexico’s safest cities. While no destination is without risk, Nomad takes student safety seriously by providing clear safety guidelines, emergency procedures, local expectations, and direct staff support throughout the program.​ Our goal is simple: to help students feel informed, confident, and supported while abroad.

Your Home in Merida

Participants stay in a hotel in downtown Merida, located in one of the city's most visitor-friendly areas. The central location puts students within walking distance of everyday essentials and local experiences, including:

Parks • Restaurants • Pharmacies • Museums • Shops • Historic Landmarks

Students share a room with one other participant and have access to:

  • Wi-Fi

  • Daily housekeeping

  • A centrally located home base

  • Nearby restaurants, pharmacies, parks, and attractions​

Your accommodations provide a comfortable place to relax, recharge, and experience Merida beyond the clinic.

Medical Insurance

Medical insurance is included in your program fee for the duration of your Nomad experience.Before departure, students receive information about their coverage, how to access their benefits, and what to do if medical assistance is needed while abroad.

The Nomad team is also available to help students navigate the process and connect with appropriate resources if an issue arises.

Old City

Merida Weather

Merida has a warm, tropical climate year-round, with plenty of sunshine and generally high temperatures. During the summer program, expect warm days and plan to spend time both indoors at clinics and outdoors exploring the city.
